Mercedes Thomas

My name is Mercedes Thomas and I’m a proud wife of an Air Force veteran and mother to an energetic and sweet 2-year-old boy! My breastfeeding story is one for the books even with all of my professional experience helping breastfeeding families! I had to remain dairy and soy-free for over a year due to my son’s dairy and soy intolerance plus all that comes with a baby who has horrible reflux and a tongue tie but through it all we made it and still continue on our breastfeeding journey. I want every mama to know that challenges don’t mean that your breastfeeding relationship has to be shorter than you or your child wants, all it takes is support and determination! In addition to my own personal breastfeeding experiences I’m a pediatric nurse practitioner, author and certified lactation counselor with over 12 years of experience that includes working the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and both inpatient and outpatient pediatrics. I also have a private practice serving families the Washington, DC area.

Fun Fact:

I went skydiving in 2011 in Santa Barbara and it was a scary but amazing experience! Talk about adrenaline rush!

Favorite TV Show:

I honestly don’t watch much television but on the rare occasion that I do, I get a kick out of watching a little reality tv on Bravo… think Housewives franchise!
